The Arkansas corrections system is one of the most extensive in the United States, with more than 23000 offenders serving time in more than 100 correctional facilities. A vast majority of these offenders are incarcerated in state prisons. Apart from the state prison system, Arkansas houses 101 county jails. The Arkansas Department of Corrections-Division of Correction operates the 21 state-run correctional facilities in Arkansas. Apart from the state prisons, this agency oversees work release or reentry centers and a training academy for correctional officers. Furthermore, DOC manages community corrections programs, such as parole, probation, and residential services.

Most inmates in state prisons are male and aged between 18 and 35. About 60% of these offenders serve time for non-violent offenses, such as property and drug crimes. The rest are serving time for violent crimes, including rape, robbery, and murder. The average length of stay in these prisons is approximately 2.5 years. However, some inmates are serving sentences of 20 years or more. The average daily population in county jails within Arkansas is approximately 300 offenders.

What are Arkansas Inmate Records?

Arkansas inmate records typically comprise numerous types of information regarding incarcerated individuals in correctional facilities in Arkansas. These records follow an individual through the entire state corrections and justice system. They can include paperwork, forms, reports, fingerprint, DNA samples, pictures, and videos.

Primarily, inmate records contain personal and official details about a specific offender. Personal details include identifying information such as the offender's full name, age, gender, date of birth, nationality, race, and physical description. On the other hand, administrative details include the inmate's registration number, arresting agency, booking date and time, criminal history, current charges, custody status, facility location, bail or bond amount, sentence information, mugshots, court dates, and projected release date.

Inmate records are publicly available per the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act. You can obtain these records from a legal custodian near you. The Arkansas Department of Corrections maintains inmate records at the state level. Alternatively, you can get them from the sheriff's office or police department.

How to Find a State Prisoner in Arkansas

Finding an Inmate in a County Jail

County jails in Arkansas typically house offenders awaiting trial, bond, or serving short-term sentences of less than a year. Additionally, they house inmates convicted of less severe crimes, such as misdemeanor offenses. Designated county sheriff's offices usually manage these facilities.

You can locate an inmate in a county jail using the ADOC's inmate search tool above. You can also check individual sheriff's office's websites for inmate rosters. Call the jail facility or sheriff's office if you still cannot find your loved one.
