Kansas Inmate Search

Kansas inmate records are the papers, documents, files, and other media that follow a prisoner through the judicial system. They are derived from police reports, court papers, warrants, arrest records, correctional facility (prison and jail) records, and records from other governmental agencies. 

In addition to other basic information, these records frequently include the offender's name, race, gender, visible scars and tattoos, marks, height, weight, hair and eye color, and birth date. Following that, information on their offenses, arrests, custody, punishment, and other court-ordered activities will be publicized. 

Inmates in the State Prison System  

The Kansas Department of Corrections provides access to these records for inmates under their care in the eight adult correctional facilities, three satellite correctional facilities, and one juvenile correctional facility.  

Visit the Kansas DOC website and utilize the "Offender Search" option to look for an inmate. Interested individuals can type in the inmate's name (first, middle, or last) or utilize the KDOC number (inmate number). You can filter options by adding their date of birth or aliases. 

Inmates in the County Jail System 

Temporary convicts awaiting hearings or trials and those serving relatively brief terms are housed in county jails. Kansas has 97 county jails in 105 counties. Most of these county jails have inmate rosters where you can find loved ones arrested and placed in jail before they await sentencing. The inmate roster may be a list of inmates in the county jail or a search tool for the jail's database.  

You can locate inmates by their names, as most lists are alphabetically arranged for easier viewing. Thus, if you have the inmate's name, you can easily find them on the list. On the searchable database, you can find your inmate by; 

• First and last name of the inmate with an optional middle name  
• Date of incarceration if they were not arrested in the facility by the sheriff's department 
• Date of arrest if the sheriff's department made the arrest.  

Inmates in the Federal Prison System 

Kansas has one federal prison operated by the North Central Regional Office of the Bureau of Prisons. You can easily locate inmates by visiting the BOP's inmate locator system and entering their names or issued numbers. Federal inmates may have either DCDC, INS, FBI, or BOP-register-issued numbers.  

Inmates in the Privately-Run Institutions  

To locate inmates in privately owned prisons, you need to contact the prison administration or the organization running the prison. You can get the contact info from the official website of the Corrections Corporations of America (CoreCivic). 

Locating inmates using Third-party Websites 

With the Kansas Open Records Act allowing the general public to access inmate records in the state, you can easily access these records from privately owned websites. Most of these websites require searchers to type in the full names of the inmate, their county or arrest or incarceration, charges (whether federal, state, or county laws violations), approximate age, height, or scars or tattoos.  

These records, however, are bound to change, as some websites do not update their records regularly.
