North Carolina Inmate Search

Updated on: March 12, 2024
North Carolina

The North Carolina department of public safety offers information to the general public and law enforcement as required by federal and state laws. The state prisoner lookup displays the information active offenders, inactive inmates, and those on parole or probation. In addition, the search engine can be used to locate the most wanted offenders, escapes, and offender releases. To initiate the search, visit the North Carolina department of public safety page. The DOC offender search will require you to enter the inmate’s first name, last name, gender, offender number, race, ethnic group, age, and date of birth. You can use one or more search criteria; moreover, more information will help narrow your search.

Performing a North Carolina Jail Inmate Search

There is no main repository of inmate records for North Carolina county jails. Therefore, if you wish to conduct a search, you must visit the jail official websites or visit the sheriff’s department in person. Municipalities typically offer instructions on how to know if someone is in jail on the local enforcement sites. The jails publish updated lists of offenders currently incarcerated in that particular facility.

Sex Offender Search

The sex offender and public protection registration programs allows for the registration and publication of sex predator information in North Carolina State. The North Carolina Sex Offender Registry maintains all relevant details on sex offenders that reside within the state. The main purpose of the website is to protect the public by offering information through searchable platforms. On the other hand, you can perform the search with the National Sex Offender Public Website which is operated and managed by the Department of Justice. The website allows you to find the latest details on sex offenders in various jurisdictions in the United States.

Alternatively, you can contact the local sheriff’s department to acquire sex offender information. The North Carolina law requires sex offenders in the state to register with the sheriff in the county where the offender reside. The sheriffs in turn keep the records and make them available and accessible by the public.

Locating an ICE Detainee

When a loved one is taken to ICE custody, it can be quite a stressing experience especially if you don’t know where the detainee is held and how to get them out of the detention. Luckily, you can use the ICE Detainee Locator System to find persons of the age of 18 years and above. If your loved one is a minor, it is advised that you contact the local field office to obtain information concerning the detainee. The ICE provides two main searchable methods such as:

Search by A-Number

Underneath the language search bar, enter the detainee’s A-Number. The Alien Registration Number contains nine digits and is mostly given to immigrants at the time their A-File is made. If the A-Number has fewer digits, you can add zeros at the beginning for better results. You can get the A-Number of different immigration documents such as work permits, immigrant fee handouts, passport visa stamps, and green cards.

Search by Biographical Information

When searching by biographical information, you must provide the detainee’s personal details such as the name, age, date of birth, and country of birth. If you encounter challenges to find a loved one, try looking out for misspellings, reversed names or removing/adding a hyphen.
