Oregon Inmate Search
The Oregon Department of Corrections runs the Oregon Prison system comprised of 12 correctional facilities. These facilities are usually used to incarcerate inmates with sentence periods exceeding one year. The law requires the department to keep a record of information for all inmates who pass through their system.
As a public service, the department makes offender information accessible through its Oregon Offender Search system. This system allows the searcher to find information by searching the offender’s name of their interest. For names with uncertain components, partial name searches are available using an asterisk (*).
In addition, the system is also searchable by the offender’s DOC-issued ID. However, to get an official or certified copy of an offender record, you must make a “public records request” to the Oregon DOC.
Everyday Victim Information Notification (VINELink)
Victim Information Notification Everyday (VINE) is a free, anonymous telephone service created to give crime victims two essential services:
- Updates on criminal cases of your offender
- Notifications of changes in the detention status of offenders
To receive these updates and additional information about Oregon VINE, you must register with VINELink via their official websites. The changes in incarceration status include escapes, transfers, release, and disciplinary measures of your offender.
Oregon Federal Inmate Locator
Oregon has one federal facility, a prison camp run and maintained by the Western Regional Office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Inmates charged with minor to medium federal offenses will likely end up in this facility.
To check if they are in the facility, you may begin by visiting the federal inmate locator tool on the BOP’s official website. This website allows interested parties to locate their inmates by:
- First and last mandatory names search option. You could add a middle name if you wish to
- The search-by-number option: where you need to specify which inmate number you want to search. This may be DCDC, FBI, BOP or INS numbers.
Note that, for maximum-level offenders, the state transfers such inmates to other states where they have contracts. You can also find such inmates using this inmate locator database.
Oregon County Inmate Search
Oregon runs a county jail system comprised of 36 county jails in 36 counties. Most of the inmates in these jails are pretrial inmates, and those sentenced to serve time in the county jails for short-term sentences usually average three months.
If you believe your inmate is in a county jail in Oregon, you may begin by visiting the county sheriff’s website and trying to find the county jail’s page. This is because county jails in Oregon are maintained and run by the county sheriff’s departments.
On the county jail page, you may find an inmate search option to direct you to the inmate roster page or just a list of the inmates in the facility. You could search the database by the offender’s name, incarceration dates, or the arrest date if the sheriff’s department arrested them.
If the jail has an inmate list, you may try to locate your inmate by name, as most of these inmate lists are arranged by inmates’ names.
