Vermont

Vermont comprises different correctional facilities, including state prisons and county jails. Inmates in these correctional facilities are usually housed in cells or dormitories. They get three meals daily and can access laundry and recreational programs. Each facility has its regulations regarding its inmate services.

Vermont inmate records refer to a trail of paperwork and evidence following an offender through the criminal justice system. They primarily include fingerprints, mugshots, police reports, confinement rosters, arrest warrants, court records, and DNA.

A typical inmate record has personal and administrative information about persons incarcerated in correctional facilities within Vermont. Personal details include demographic data such as the offender's full name, aliases, age, gender, race, date of birth, nationality, ethnicity, and physical description, including height, weight, eye color, hair color, tattoos, and scars. On the other hand, administrative data comprise official details such as the offender's identification number, charge details, criminal history, arresting agency, booking date and time, bail or bond amount, sentence information, custody status, court dates, transfer details, facility location, and maximum release date.

Most of these inmate records are publicly available under the Vermont Public Records Act. Hence, the general public or interested parties can inspect or obtain these records from record custodians upon request. It is essential to note that some records, such as medical records and juvenile details, remain confidential and can only be accessed by authorized persons. The Vermont Department of Corrections (VTDOC) typically maintains inmate records at the state level. You can also obtain these records from the county sheriff's office or local police department.

The search criterion to use when conducting an inmate search usually varies depending on the type of correctional facility, as follows:

Vermont State Prisons

The Vermont Department of Corrections primarily operates six correctional facilities at different locations across the state. This agency also manages a Probation and Parole Office in Burlington and a Pre-Release Center in Williston.

Suppose you believe your incarcerated loved one or someone you know is serving time at a state prison; the first place you should look is on the VTDOC official website. The general public or interested parties can conduct an inmate search using the "Offender Locator" search tool on the website. You must provide the inmate's name, alias, or DOC Number. This search usually returns essential details regarding the offender, such as location, booking details, and identification numbers.

You can search by name and select your person of interest to view detailed information. The latter includes inmate status, parole officer, and minimum and maximum release times.

Vermont County Jail Inmate Search

Residents and interested parties who want to find out if someone is in a county jail in Vermont can contact local law enforcement offices. Generally, county sheriff's offices operate county jails, while local police departments run city jails. When looking for an offender jail, consider visiting the county or city official website and navigating to the sheriff's office or police department section to find the inmate locator tool.

Most county jails provide an online inmate roster containing a list of current inmates at the jail facility. Look up the facility's contact if you cannot find an inmate search tool or roster on these sites. You can call or visit the jail or sheriff's to inquire about an offender.
